New Zealand have announced their Rugby League World Cup 2008 squad. Injured premiership centre Steve Matai has been named with hope he will be able to play on opening night, October 26.
Brent Webb who recently missed the English Super League grand final due to a back complaint has also been named and the New Zealand staff will be hoping he can recover to complete what looks to be a surprisingly strong team.
Roy Asotasi, Sonny-Bill Williams and Frank Pritchard are all key players that we have come accustomed to over the last few years but will have to be replaced by younger players willing to step up and represent their country.
The exciting Isaac Luke and the powerful Manu Vatuvei will certainly give this team some visual value. The tireless Nathan Cayless will also ensure that the youthfulness of this side will work to their advantage.
The question mark lies over the halves combination and whether Nathan Fien and Benji Marshall can mix it with the likes of Jonathon Thurston and Darren Lockyer. Marshall, who hit some form at the back end of the season will be hoping he can guide New Zealand into the final at Suncorp Stadium on November 22 2008.
The New Zealand Squad:
Nathan Cayless (C) (Parramatta)
Adam Blair (Melbourne)
Greg Eastwood (Brisbane)
David Fa'alogo (South Sydney)
Nathan Fien (New Zealand Warriors)
