There are three spots remaining in the exclusive Masters Cup tournament to be held in Shanghai. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Nikolay Davydenko have already secured there spots for the tournament starting on November 9.
The big question is...who will fill the final three spots? All this will be answered in the tournament starting this week in Paris. Andy Roddick currently sitting in 6th place would be feeling confident that he will qualify for his 6th straight season ending event. This goes to show how consistent the A-Rod has been over the years. It is just a shame he hasn't won more Grand Slams in his career with only 1 US open title to his name.
The next player feeling confident about his chances will be Juan Martin Del Potro who is ready to be the number 1 Argentine. He has had an outstanding year winning 4 titles (Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Los Angles and Washington and making the final at Tokyo) and really does deserve a crack at the season ending masters event.
Gilles Simon has come from nowhere like a thief in the night. What an outstanding season he has compiled. An unflashy player who is solid off both wings and plays every point like its his last. I am tipping him too have a big week in Paris after his final appearance in Madrid and squeeze into the last qualifying position.
Other players in contention include David Ferrer. Last years Masters Cup finalist will be desperate to find form in Paris after a slow end to the year. Another player in contention is James Blake but he should book his vacation after Paris because his recent form has shown that he does not belong with the top players on the planet.
I believe all the other players are too far back in the race and would have too rely on perfect scenarios to qualify. In my opinion the players in the top eight at the moment will play for the trophy in Shanghai. So the 8 players playing in the last tournament of the year should be:
1. Rafael Nadal - 1310 pts - qualified
2. Roger Federer - 1016 pts - qualified
3. Novak Djokovic- 914 pts - qualified
4. Andy Murray - 659 pts - qualified
5. Nikolay Davydenko - 418 pts - qualified
6. Andy Roddick - 369 pts - Will qualify
7. Juan Martin Del Potro - 354 pts - Deserves to qualify
8. Gilles Simon - 341 pts - pressure to qualify but will be there.
9. David Ferrer - 338 pts - The player who will come in to the 8.
10. James Blake - 310pts - James its time for a holiday.
Let me know your thoughts.
