Only three games to complete the split round this week, the pick of them being the Saturday night blockbuster as Sydney takes on Collingwood at Telstra Stadium. Sportingdaily.net will be there, so be sure to come back for a special picture gallery.
A disastrous weekend for the tipping last weekend, with only 1 win correctly selected from 5 games. If I can make all 3 this weekend, that will at least give me a 50% success rate for the full round.
Richmond v Melbourne (MCG, Friday 7:40pm)
Now is the winter of their discontent for both these clubs. Richmond's season has lurched from one disaster to another as the club remains winless in 2007 with half the season over already. The Tigers have been in winning positions in many of their games, but have lacked the fitness and psychological nerve to last the distance. This week they take on Melbourne, who after round 9 has also been winless but have strung together a 2-match winning streak. Confidence is returning at Demonland, especially for the emotional roller-coaster that is Russell Robertson. On the public holiday blockbuster against Collingwood, it was the number 24 who proved the difference between the teams with a stellar display on the forward line. It's a long climb up the table for the Demons after a nightmare start to the season, but they will go another step along the way with a big win here.
Sydney v Collingwood (Telstra Stadium, Saturday 7:10pm)
Sydney's date of hate hits the Olympic Stadium on Saturday night as the Swans take on arch-rivals Collingwood. There's been a big rivalry between these sides in recent years - statements from Collingwood president and TV host Eddie McGuire have contributed to this, while Magpie supporters are still resentful of the defection of Nick Davis to the Swans. Both sides will be fresh after a week off, and the fresh legs will be critical in what is expected to be an extremely heavy ground on a cold and wet night. The Swans will be without key defender Tadhg Kennelly, but this is more than offset by the Magpie midfield trio of Nathan Buckley, James Clement and Simon Prestigiacomo who will all be absent. With a huge crowd supporting them, and home ground advantage, the Swans should just have the edge to get up in a close game.
West Coast v St Kilda (Subiaco Oval, Sunday 4:40pm)
This week's Sunday evening game sees defending premiers West Coast playing host to the under-performing St Kilda. The Eagles haven't had everything go their way this season, and went down to Essendon by a point at their last start, but remain unbeaten at home and second on the ladder. Subiaco has been a house of pain for visiting sides, especially visiting sides who are down on morale like St Kilda. The Saints will be glad to have had the week off to lick their wounds after a demoralising loss in their last start against the Kangaroos. We've had the public spat between Rod Butterss and Grant Thomas, and rumours continue to abound that all is not well at St Kilda. Against such a well-drilled side at home, it's hard to see St Kilda getting close here - Eagles easily.
