And it finished Urawa Red Diamonds 0 Sydney FC 0. Urawa go through to the quarter finals.
OK we didn't win and we didn't make the quarter finals. But Sydney FC gained a lot of respect.
When you consider how we were on the ropes after bombing out in the A-League semis with Butcher getting the flick; and the talk was how Sydney FC would be cannon fodder. But like the true champions the boys are; they never accepted that, played some sensational football. Even tonight in that cauldron at Urawa they were never intimidated by an opposition, every player of whom was earning more than the entire Sydney FC team. They fought, matched it with them, and never gave in. They gave it their best shot - and that's all we as supporters can ask of them.
Looking forward to next season with a new optimism and a genuine hope we can take our 2nd A-League title. I am a Sydney FC supporter, and fucking proud of it. Sydney Till I Die.
I was so absorbed in the game, desperately hoping for a Sydney winner; that it suddenly occurred to me after I got on the internet after the game that I wasn't even remotely interested in who won the NRL State of Origin. It's not often that happens.
