The conclusion of the league stage of the UEFA is to be played early tomorrow morning Australian time. There are only three games of any meaning in terms of qualification for the next phase. In Group E, Rangers take on Lyon in a winner take all contest in Glasgow. PSV must defeat Internazionale and hope Fenerbache fail to defeat the struggling CSKA Moscow at home to progress.
In terms of making a profit, however, I will be heading away from those matches. Instead, Roma host Manchester United in a dead rubber. Neither team has anything to gain or lose from the game. All places in Group F are set with Manchester United topping the group.
Neither team would be too keen to incur any injuries in a meaningless game and may send out below strength line-ups to blood some youth or to give fringe players some football.
Because there is nothing to play for in this match, the intensity may not be quite at Cahmpions League standard and the draw is the most likely result. Prices range between 3.25 and 3.65 in Australia, so the value is there.
West Ham play Everton overnight in the Carling Cup, England's third string football competition. Most of the big clubs don't take this competition too seriously but these two have as it may well be their only opportunity to win a trophy as the big four usually win the league and FA Cup. This game will be pretty intense as the players play for a rare Wembley appearance. Everton's league form has been superior to West Ham's having picked up 14 out of a possible 18 in their last six games and have a win and a draw from their last two away fixtures. I think there is a fraction of difference in class Everton's way and that may be enough for them to get the chocolates. Here in Australia the prices range between 2.70 and 2.80.
Don't forget to head over to Scotties' Sports Picks for any American action, the man is on fire at the moment and is well worth a read.
Good Punting.
