UEFA Champions League - Matchday 5 Continues

The second half of matchday five sees three opportunties to profit.

The Sporting Punter was a bit lucky that Manchester United were able to get past a very determined Sporting Lisbon in the last minute in another classic European night at the Theatre of Dreams. But we'll take a win in any form.

Liverpool host Porto at Anfield. They drew 1-1 last time they met at in Portugal. Liverpool would have been thrilled with that result. Their form since was only fair before they destroyed Besiktas 8-0 in their last game. Porto are unbeaten so far in group A and are playing good steady football. However, I think Liverpool will lift their game again to keep their hopes alive of progressing in the tournament. Neither side can afford to lose because no team is guaranteed a place in the next round, nor is any team out of the running. This game will be an open affair but I expect Liverpool to prevail in a close one. The general bookmaking consensus has Liverpool between 1.40 and 1.45 favourites.

Lazio host Olympiakos in Rome in what shapes as a do or die affair. Lazio simply cannot afford to lose this penultimate game as they have to travel to the Bernabeu in their last game to face the might of Real Madrid. Olympiakos travel to Rome after gaining a nil-nil draw at home to Real Madrid. Italian teams are very very difficult to beat at home. They like to score early then play the match at their tempo, aiming to hit their opponents on the counter as they chase the game to close proceedings out. I can't see Olympiakos being good enough to counter that game plan. Lazio should prevail here. English punters are doing better than Australian punters as they can obtain 1.80 from Ladbrokes and William Hill. Lazio are 1.73 in Australia

AC Milan are away to Benfica in our last game for wagering. Milan will not be taking Fillippo Inazghi and Massimo Ambrosini to the Stadium of Light, but players such as Kaka, Seedorf and Emerson pose enough of an attacking threat to keep Benfica occupied. Milan should still have too much class for Benfica who have struggled to find the mark in this year's tournament. They have only scored two goals in four games, they will more than likely struggle against the well-organised Milan defence. Once again English bookmakers have MIlan at better value than Australia. William Hill has Milan at 2.25, Ladbrokes have them at 2.10 whilst the Australian price is about 2.05.

If you have some spare cash from the United game, back all individually and take a treble if you are feeling greedy.
