What ever happened to the WACA of old?

What has the world come to? Unsure? I'll help you. The WACA pitch suits spinners. Take a minute while you absorb that information. Ready to move on? I'm not. I've been brought up with three main principles.
1) Respect your elders.
2) Sport is more important than life and death.
3) The WACA pitch will always have pace and bounce.
It's just one of those things that is unchangable. Yet to my disbelief I've been reading all week how this years Perth Test is likely to be dominated by batsmen, at least in the first few days. Only on days four and five will the bowlers come into account, and even then it will be Warne and (please Duncan, give him a go already!) Panesar that will have a shot.

This would have been unheard of in bygone years. Yet it is the reality. A very harsh reality for none more so in the Australian side than Brett Lee. Lee often relies on hitting the pitch, as everyone's favourite English South African likes to say, hord and forst. If the ball is holding up a bit, this may expose Lee's inability to get much movement with the new ball. Having said that, Lee bowled extremely well with the old ball on the last day of the Adelaide debacle.
The English bowlers definitely have more to worry about. Not because of the tough assignment that lies ahead, but because now that they've seen Robbie Williams, U2, Kylie and Elton John in concert, what else are they going to do between Test losses? Perhaps they could give the groundsmen at the WACA a hand.
It is hard not to get caught up in all the Ashes hype. However, the Sporting Daily remains committed to covering at least one non-Ashes issue in every post. So here it is. An open message to the ARU. Please let Mat Rogers go. The man clearly has had his fair share of issues to deal with this year. What is just as clear is that he wants to make a new start, and that new start involves playing league on the Gold Coast. So for once, make the right decision ARU. Oh and while your at it making right decisions, go back in time to the beginning of this year and make Ewen Mckenzie the coach of the Wallabies. Cheers ARU.
