Lleyton Hewitt bowed out in 4 sets against Novak Djokovic

Aussie Lleyton Hewitt faced a tough fight when he took on Serb Novak Djokovic in the round of 16. It was a very even battle in which neither player had the chance to gain any momentum. Djokovic took the first 2 sets in tie-breakers, before a service break to Hewitt enabled him to take the third. Both players took strategically-times injury time-outs during the fourth set, and the strategy continued as the set moved into a tiebreak with Djokovic slowing the match down; often bouncing the ball 20 times before serving. In the end, the 4th seeded Serb won his third tiebreak to progress through to the quarters, while Lleyton Hewitt misses out on contesting that round for the first time since he won The Championships.
Rafael Nadal won through after another 5 set marathon, this time the opponent being Russian Mikhail Youzhny. Marcos Baghdatis had a straight-sets win to progress, while Tomas Berdych lost a tiebreak to veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman but was otherwise untroubled.
Venus Williams' giant-killing run continued with the American taking out a straight-sets win over 5th seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova. Ana Ivanovic also won through, taking 3 sets to defeat Nicole Vaidisova.

Finally Roger Federer made it back on court. With rain delays holding up the rest of the competition earlier in the week, and Tommy Haas forfeiting his 4th round match, the defending champion hasn't had a match for 6 days. But late in the day he made it on court to start his quarter-final against Juan Carlos Ferrero, which is locked at 5-5 in the first set.
