Sam Stosur overcame a slow start to win in 3 sets

Tuesday saw the rain stay away and a full day's play was possible; and what a day's play it was. Especially for Britain's great hope Tim Henman and Spaniard Carlos Moya who resumed their centre-court battle at 5-5 in the 5th set. An hour later and 5-5 had become 11-11, with neither playing giving up the fight in an epic contest. Serving at 11-11, Henman showed great character to survive a number of break points and eventually hold serve; and when Moya's serve was broken in the next game the Brit had taken out a remarkable victory.
A few minor seeds fell by the wayside, but the big names were mainly untroubled and easily progressed. Raphael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, James Blake, Jelena Jankovic, Daniela Hantuchova and Maria Sharapova all had comfortable straight-sets wins. Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova had a tougher time, being taken to 3 sets by Julia Vakulenko but in the end the 5th seed prevailed.
It was a great day for the Australians. Sam Stosur dropped her serve in the opening game of the match and lost the set, but gradually asserted her superiority over Kristina Brandi. Wayne Arthurs, playing in his last Wimbledon, got up in an epic 5-setter Thierno de Bakker while Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione had comfortable straight-sets wins.
