The day started with a short rain delay and finished with a long rain delay. In between, the tennis was again exciting, despite any top seeds falling into any danger. The closest to getting in trouble was Chilean 5th seed Fernando Gonzalez, who dropped his first set against Colombian Alejandro Falla and dropped his serve early in the 4th set before fighting back to take that set and the match in a tie-break.
Elsewhere, Andy Roddick was untroubled with a straight-sets win, while Justin Henin was in devastating form in overcoming Vera Dushevina, while Jelena Jankovic breezed past Jarmila Gajdosova 6-1 6-1. Martina Hingis and Elena Dementieva also had straight-sets wins, although Dementieva was made to fight to a second set tiebreak against Nathalie Dechy. Top seed Roger Federer took a 2 sets to 0 lead over Juan Martin Del Potro before the rain arrived.
It wasn't a great day for the Australians. Alicia Molik was up a break against Serena Williams in both sets but the American broke back to take a straight-sets win. Sam Stosur was also disappointingly eliminated, going down to Venezualan Milagros Sequera. The only Aussie winner was Nicole Pratt, who prevailed in straight sets against fellow Aussie Casey Dellaqua.

Molik had such a good opportunity to beat S. Williams!! A shame she couldn't hold onto her breaks...

Frustrating for Molik, I don't think she's been the same player since she had the time out with the inner ear infection. But she put up a great fight on Wednesday night.
