Tomas Berdych was taken to 4 sets, but is through to round 3

Thursday saw a full day's play, with matches on the outside courts starting an hour earlier to make up some of the time from rain delays earlier in the week.
The tournament had been looking for an upset, and it came when veteran Australian Wayne Arthurs took on 11th seed Tommy Robredo. Arthurs, playing in his last tournament before retirement, achieved an early service break to take the first set; and the second went all the way to the tiebreak. In an epic tie-break, Robredo took an early point break off Arthurs, but when serving at 5-4 the left-handed Aussie took both of Robredo's service points to set up a set point. With the set completed, Arthurs took control to take out a straight-sets victory and ensure he won't be hanging up the racket just yet.
There could so easily have been another upset, with firey Australian redhead Chris Guccione taking the first 2 sets against Russian 6th seed Nikolay Davydenko and taking the third to a tie-break. But sadly for the Aussie he was unable to take the opportunity, with the Russian taking the tie-break and eventually prevailing in 5 sets.
Lleyton Hewitt got through with a comprehensive straight-sets demolition of Simone Bolelli, but the last Australian woman Nicole Pratt was blasted off the court by Nicole Vaidisova.

Roger Federer, James Blake, Raphael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Amelie Mauresmo all had comfortable straight-sets wins, but Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych and Marcos Baghdatis were taken to 4 sets and had some nervous moments during their matches before going through.

Thanks for the update. Appreciating these posts since I had to get rid of Foxtel.

Thanks JohnDoe. It's a bugger you can't have Fox Sports, and Ch 9's coverage doesn't start till scandalously late; but hopefully we can do something to fill the void.
