Wimbledon Scoreboard - Day 6

Rain, rain and more rain. It was a frustrating day at Wimbledon, when only a brief period of play was possible and only 3 matches completed. Even one of them, Maria Sharapova's defeat of Ai Sugiyama, was concluded in light rain; with the covers coming down immediately after the players shook hands.
Venus Williams won the first set in her match against Akiko Morigami, but was down a break at 4-1 in the second. Elena Dementieva took out the first set against Tamira Paszek and Svetlana Kuznetsova was up a set and a break against Agneszka Radwanska. Ana Ivanovic had taken the first set Aravane Rezai when the rain came; and that was it. Raphael Nadal and Robin Soderling were warming up, but that was as far as they got before the rain forced them to retreat to the rooms.
It had been a frustrating day, and as Wimbledon doesn't play on the middle Sunday, Monday will see a huge backlog of matches to make up. Play has been brought forward to start at 11am England time (8pm Sydney time) on all courts. With no Sunday play, the next Wimbledon Scoreboard article will be posted on Tuesday to sum up the marathon day's play on Monday night.
